Iranian Drone Strikes Kuwait Airport Fuel Tanks

(MENAFN) An Iranian drone struck fuel storage tanks at Kuwait International Airport in the early hours of Wednesday, igniting a major blaze that was met with no reported casualties, Kuwait's state news agency confirmed.

The news agency citing the Kuwait Directorate General of Civil Aviation, reported that the unmanned aerial vehicle zeroed in on a fuel storage facility operated by the Kuwait Aviation Fueling Company, leaving it severely damaged.

Emergency firefighting crews were rapidly dispatched to the scene. No fatalities or injuries were recorded.

Wednesday's strike represents the most recent assault on key Kuwaiti infrastructure as hostilities across the region continue to intensify.

In a parallel development, Bahrain's Interior Ministry announced that a blaze ignited by a separate Iranian strike on one of its installations had been successfully contained.

The attacks are unfolding against the backdrop of a widening military confrontation. The US and Israel have conducted sustained airstrikes against Iran since Feb. 28, a campaign that Iranian authorities say has claimed more than 1,340 lives to date. Tehran has responded with waves of drone and missile strikes directed at Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states that host US military forces.

The conflict is also sending shockwaves through global energy markets, pushing prices higher and choking maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz — the strategically vital waterway responsible for approximately 20% of the world's daily oil supply.
