Kuwait Denounces Iran Missile, Drone Strikes Targeting Its Territory
The strikes amount to "a serious escalation and a direct violation of Kuwait's security and stability" and pose a "grave threat to the civilian safety and critical infrastructure" in Kuwait, the country's Foreign Ministry said in a strongly worded statement.
Kuwait's Foreign Ministry warned that the repeated nature of such attacks was actively undermining regional de-escalation efforts and destabilizing broader Middle Eastern security. Reiterating its categorical rejection of the assaults, the ministry drew a firm line on accountability.
"Kuwait reserves its full right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its security and defend its territory," it added, holding Iran "fully responsible for these unlawful attacks."
Kuwait's armed forces confirmed earlier Monday that national air defense systems had successfully intercepted "hostile missile and drone attacks" following the activation of air raid sirens and the issuance of emergency alerts across the country.
The strikes represent the latest eruption of a regional crisis that has been building since Feb. 28, when US and Israeli forces launched coordinated attacks against Iran. Tehran retaliated with sweeping waves of drones and missiles targeting locations across the region, while simultaneously closing the Strait of Hormuz — one of the world's most vital energy transit corridors.
A ceasefire brokered through Pakistani mediation came into effect on April 8, but follow-up negotiations held in Islamabad failed to yield a lasting accord. Iran and the US have since continued exchanging proposals and counterproposals in a protracted effort to resume direct dialogue and bring the conflict to a close.
